Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as eyelid surgery, is a procedure designed to correct sagging eyelids, under-eye bags, and excess folds around the eyes. This surgical procedure removes excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids, rejuvenating the eye area and creating a more youthful, rested appearance. Blepharoplasty is often performed in conjunction with other procedures such as facelifts, brow lifts, or forehead lifts and can be done under IV sedation at our Cape Coral office.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure During the procedure, fine incisions are made along the natural creases and lines of the eyelids, minimizing visible scarring.

• Upper Eyelids: The incision is made in the natural fold of the upper lid to remove excess skin and fat.

• Lower Eyelids: The incision is made inside the eyelid to address under-eye bags and remove or reposition excess fat.

Once the fat and skin are removed, small sutures are used to close the incisions. The amount of fat excised is carefully determined based on the degree of protrusion. A laser may also be used during the procedure to reduce wrinkles around the eyes. The surgery typically lasts up to two hours, depending on the complexity of the case.

Post-Operative Information After the surgery, some common post-operative conditions may include:

• Dry Eyes: This can be managed with prescribed medication.

• Light Sensitivity: Sensitivity to bright lights and wind may persist temporarily.

• Numbness and Itching: These are normal during the healing process.

A final evaluation is usually performed several months after the procedure to ensure optimal results and proper healing.

Insurance Information If blepharoplasty is performed to address visual impairment caused by sagging eyelids, part of the cost may be covered by insurance.
